There's always more than one side to every story. Also when it comes down to love. I admire how Aurora takes this into account when she makes new songs for us. First she writes one of the most beautiful lovesongs ever, Exist For Love, and then she turns about and focus on her fans who have lost it.
The American comedian and writer, Daniel Tosh, supposedly once stated that: “No matter how flat you make your pancakes, it still has two sides.”1. There is only so much you can do to keep the flames of love alive before it comes to a point where you have to let go. For me, this is some part of what A Potion For Love is about.
A Potion For Love
A Potion for Love was first released as the B-Side on the Cure For Me vinyl single on the 9th of July, 2021, and was released as a digital single on the 29th of July, 2022.2
The song has been performed live many times during the The Gods We Can Touch Tour, so I guess she likes to perform it too. If I’m not mistaken, I believe she often sings it alongside Exist For Love.
The song was once considered for The Gods We Can Touch album but, as you can hear from her interview with Sondre Lerche above, it was discarded. She stated that she had like five songs too many to make it to her album, and she expressed uncertainty whether she’d made the right choices 💚.
According to Indie88, Aurora had this to say about the song:
When I wrote 'Exist for Love', a celebration of the love we carry within us, I also wrote 'Potion for Love'. I wanted to also give something to the people who had lost their love. I find it so beautiful how we still find the bravery to give and receive love knowing how it can disappear at any moment. It makes it foolishly beautiful. Painfully delicious. So little connected to the mind and to logic that it makes my little heart want to burst.3
In The Gods We Can Touch book, Aurora wrote about A Potion For Love alongside the page for Exist For Love. Probably to emphasize the sister-connection between the two. The pages includes lyrics for the song and an introduction that reads:
EXIST FOR LOVE AND A POTION FOR LOVE
Two sister songs.
One for the ones in love, as a reminder of how pure it is.
How divine love is.And one for the people in pain.
For when love is over,
and the ones we kept so close to our hearts
becomes the strangest stranger of them all.And now I feel like there is balance.
Love is found and
Love is lost. xxxxLove, yours truly, Aurora
She also stated that “It's the sister song to "Exist for Love" but from the other perspective. where love does not fill you up, but love has left a big hole within you.”4

Final words
Starting out, I thought this was going to be a fast and easy letter to compose, but I must say it was more difficult than anticipated. There isn’t a well of information to be found on this song, and I struggled a bit to connect the pieces into a coherent story. I hope it all make sense to you. Those of you have found me on Instagram will soon find a shortened version of this song story there 😊
Have a day
