OK - Letās dive into todayās theme: The story of āGiving In To The Loveā.
Giving In To The Love
This was the 3rd single Aurora released prior to her album The Gods We Can Touch, and the Earth is already way into its third orbit around the Sun since its worldwide release on the 14th of October, 2021.
According to the description found in the news magazine Samtiden, the song addresses the obsession with beauty that humanity currently has, which makes us forget and fail to appreciate the fire smoldering inside us, where our inner self is the most important part.1
Aurora herself had this to say about the song:
"I was thinking about Prometheus, the myth, and how he supposedly created mankind in clay. And how he stole the fire from the gods to kinda make us alive and complete us, I guess.
And I was thinking about this clay and how much we obsess with the looks of this clay, that kind of means nothing. And how it seems to distract us from I guess the fire that we keep inside. And that's very sad.
I think the world today makes a lot of people very unhappy because we obsess with these strange things, like how we look. [...] and I find this obsession with beauty both very fascinating and very scary at the same time, so it's kind of about that."
The interview with Samtiden also revealed that each of the 15 songs on Aurora's upcoming album, "The Gods We Can Touch," was inspired by a Greek deity and, as Aurora stated in the quote above, the single "Giving In To The Love" draws inspiration from Prometheus, the Titan who brought fire to humanity. The song reflects on society's obsession with beauty and its tendency to overlook the inner fire within each individual.
Prometheus
In Greek mythology, Prometheus was one of the Titans. They were ancient deities that emerged from the union of Uranus (Sky) and Gaia (Earth). While Prometheus wasn't among the original Titans, he descended from these.
In ancient myth, Prometheus defied the gods by stealing their fire, a symbol of knowledge and enlightenment. Later, he shaped clay into humans and breathed the fire into it. This granted the humans life, intellect, and marks the beginnings of civilization. Thus, humanity's fate became entwined with the stolen flames.
Music video
A music video, directed by Sigurd Fossen and recorded at Ramme in Norway, was released the 20th of October, 2021.2 I impressed with how they have catured the story for Prometheus; Aurora being the flame that breathes life into the clay statues that was standing as background properties while she sang the first part of the song. I find it clever how the transparent, dancing Aurora becomes the fire within them all š
The song also became āSong of the weekā at the Norwegian radio channel P3, and she did an interview with them. Hereās what she said about the song:
Yes. so for me, it's very much about... yes, freedom. A kind of feeling of freedom in life. And... And think a little about what things in life hinder the lovely feeling of freedom. Which you can, in a way, live With every day. I think many people feel a little trapped inside themselves. Inside their Shell. And then they forget a bit how much value all the beautiful things inside have.
A performance worth watching
It comes as no surprise that Aurora likes to end shows with this one. The uplifting sing-along at the end makes it perfect for that. Here is one with great audio to watch, notice the great mood sheās in š:
