Let her save the world
Once a year Norwegian citizens volunteer to go door-to-door to collect money…
Hi, there!
Thank you for all the great suggestions you gave me as response to my last letter to you (I was pushed towards payed subscription, which I didn’t like). As you can see, I have found a possible way to solve the problem. I had never heard of Substack before, and it didn’t show up as an option when I was searching for possible solutions. One very nice feature I have now, is that you can find all my letters on a beautiful newsfeed on Substack.
Many of you also suggested me to set up “Buy me a coffee”. That is very kind of you, and your interest truly moves me. I’m happy to say that my newsletter is still free of charge, and I intend to keep it that way. But your kindness made me think about Aurora, and how she have supported lots of charity actions through the years. One of those is the yearly TV-action, where she have participated three times since 2015. This letter will tell you more about these events.
Enjoy ☺️
About the National TV-action
Once a year the people in Norway, about 100.000 of them, volunteer to go door-to-door to collect money to some charity. This is a tradition going all the way back to 1974. Norwegian companies and the Government contribute with big amounts of money too. The Norwegian Church Aid and the Red Cross Are two of the organisations that have received the fundings most often, but a lot of other organisations have received the collected money too. All to fight poverty and injustice.
It is the national TV network NRK who owns this call to action, and it’s called “TV-Aksjonen”. They say on their website that: "The TV campaign, as we know it today, has been conducted every autumn since 1974, but fundraising efforts date back much earlier. The very first time NRK made itself available for a charitable cause was in February 1946, for the campaign 'National Aid for the Victims of War and the Survivors of the Fallen.'”
The same day the volunteers collect money, NRK runs a live show on TV where we learn about the campaign for the current year, and where famous artists can contribute with artworks that can be bought through live auctions. As the show runs on TV, viewers are encouraged to send in money to support the cause.
A rumour
I have heard that Aurora once was auctioned away for a private concert in a lucky buyers home. They shall have paid about 3000 Euros for the event. Money donated to the current campaign. Sadly, I haven’t found any proof to the story, but it doesn’t mean it’s false. Anyway - wouldn’t that be an amazing experience?

The slogan was “We can still save the rainforest.” The funds were distributed to five countries to save the rainforest and help the 260 million people living in those areas. Brazil, Peru, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Congo were the supported countries.
Aurora performed Runaway and Running With The Wolves. Both performances are still available on YouTube:

2020: “A sea of opportunities”
Results: 228.000.000 Norwegian kroner (approx. 20.123.500 €)
Recipient: World Wide Fund For Nature
The fundraising campaign in 2020 went under the slogan “A sea of opportunities”. The action provided funds to the World Wide Fund For Nature to clean the oceans for damaging plastic garbage.
“WWF works to ensure that less plastic ends up in nature and the sea. This is done by collaborating with the business world to ensure that less plastic is used in products and that it will be easier to reuse the plastic. WWF also works with governments in poor countries to build up good systems for disposing of rubbish and recycling plastic. WWF is working to achieve an agreement whereby all countries in the world will commit to reducing their plastic emissions into nature.” (Salaby)
Aurora performed The Seed for this event. She did a small concert as a surprise for volunteers who was picking garbage along a beach, and she performed it live during the NRK show. NRK TV Campaign also used this song as the major theme for the whole show, which is quite amazing 😍.
Namsos School of Culture made a dance show, using her original song.
